Magnitude 4.2 earthquake reported in south-central Nebraska
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – If you felt shaking on Sunday, you’re not losing it.
The U.S. Geological Survey reported a magnitude 4.2 earthquake at roughly 1:30 p.m.
The rare Nebraska earthquake didn’t appear to cause any damage.
Officials credit that to its relative weakness, as well as earthquake-resistant buildings in the area.
The epicenter was about 15 miles northeast of Red Cloud, just north of the Kansas border in the central part of the state.
Geologists estimated that there was light shaking for residents of cities including Hastings, Clay Center, Superior and Red Cloud.
Weak shaking was reported in Lincoln; Grand Island; Manhattan, Kansas; and even as far as Bellevue.
The Geological Survey reported a slightly smaller magnitude 3 earthquake a few hours later in the southeast corner of South Dakota.
