Make-A-Wish Nebraska celebrates 40th anniversary at annual ball

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Make-A-Wish Nebraska hosted it’s annual ball Saturday, along with celebrating it’s 40th anniversary.

The Nebraska branch has granted over 3,000 wishes since it’s inception in 1983, to kids who have been diagnosed with terminal illnesses.

They’ve sent kids all over the world. Some of the most popular places are Hawaii and Disneyland.

The annual ball is one their biggest fundraisers, and organizers are hoping to set a new record of over $160,000 in donations this year.

“We know when we grant a wish it’s not just that moment or that one experience, it is something that stays with people for a lifetime,” regional director Melissa Davis-Schmit said. “Once you’ve been impacted by that wish, it’s just with you. It’s pure joy, forever.”

One child got an extra-special surprise at the ball, which was a live wish reveal. He found out he was going to Disneyland.
