Man accused of abandoning nine puppies near dumpster in Omaha
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A man was arrested Monday after abandoning several puppies in Omaha earlier this year, authorities say.
Preston Woodall was booked on suspicion of 11 counts of animal cruelty and 1 count of having an unrestrained dog.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office said Woodall drove his car to an apartment complex near 108th and Fort streets on Feb. 14.
Woodall, who was wearing a ski mask, left nine four-week-old puppies and the mother dog next to the apartment’s dumpster.
Investigators identified Woodall as a suspect, and an arrest warrant was issued.
On Aug. 12, Woodall arrived at the sheriff’s office to fill out a handgun purchase permit form. The record check showed Woodall had two warrants out for his arrest, the sheriff’s office said.
When Woodwall went to pick up the handgun purchase permit, deputies took him into custody.
In a post on Facebook, the sheriff’s office thanked the Nebraska Humane Society “for all they do every day to fight for the health and safety of animals daily in Douglas County.”
