Man accused of cashing almost $4,000 in counterfeit checks at Lincoln banks
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A man was arrested Monday in connection with the cashing of counterfeit checks in Lincoln.
Connor Curtis, who turns 20 on Thursday, is charged with second-degree forgery.
Authorities say on May 12, he went to three Union Bank & Trust locations with counterfeit checks from a trucking company.
The first two banks cashed his checks, which totaled $3,969, according to court documents.
But the teller at the third bank, where an arrest affidavit says Curtis was trying to cash a $1,980 check, wanted to check with the trucking company.
So Curtis left, leaving the check behind, police said.
A few days later, he was pulling off the same crimes in the Omaha area, according to the affidavit.
Police said he cashed about $10,000 in fake checks there.
Curtis was convicted in Sarpy County and sentenced to jail last month, but with credit for time served, he was released the next day.
A Lancaster County judge issued a warrant for his arrest in August.
His first court appearance has not been scheduled.
