Man accused of DUI after road rage incident in York County
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – An intoxicated man was arrested Sunday after a road rage incident in York County, the sheriff’s office says.
Around 12:15 p.m., deputies were sent on a 911 call from another agency regarding a driver who was “tailgating and colliding” with the back of another vehicle.
The caller remained on the phone and relayed information to authorities regarding the driver’s behavior, according to the sheriff’s office.
The driver — later identified as Matthew Townsend of Underwood, Iowa — was speeding up, slowing down and passing vehicles on the shoulder.
The sheriff’s office said Townsend didn’t stop after the crash and eventually made it into York County.
A deputy spotted the vehicle near the York exit on Interstate 80 and pulled the vehicle over.
The deputy suspected the driver was under the influence of alcohol. He later provided a breath sample of 0.369 blood alcohol content level, over four times the legal limit, the sheriff’s office said.
Inside the vehicle, deputies found open alcohol containers, suspected cocaine and a loaded AR-15 rifle with hundreds of rounds of ammo, according to the sheriff’s office.
Townsend was arrested on suspicion of several charges, including willful reckless driving, second-offense aggravated DUI and obstructing a peace officer.
