Man accused of impersonating officer during traffic stop in Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – An Ashland man was arrested early Monday morning after posing as a volunteer firefighter in Lincoln, police say.
Around 12:15 a.m., officers responded to a report of a vehicle that had turned on “red and blue lights” to pull over a Volkswagen Jetta near West Van Dorn and Highway 77.
Police said the driver, 20-year-old Braxton Devor, claimed he was a volunteer firefighter.
Devor told officers he saw the Jetta pass him on the shoulder and then come into his lane, nearly causing a crash, according to LPD.
He then activated the emergency lights to stop the vehicle and called dispatch. Devor never exited his vehicle.
LPD officers determined the driver of the Jetta was intoxicated and the passenger had open containers of alcohol.
The driver was cited on suspicion of first-offense DUI and the passenger was cited on suspicion of having an open container.
Police said Devor was arrested on suspicion of impersonating an officer.
At around 9 a.m., LPD confirmed Devor was not a volunteer firefighter. At this time, investigators are unsure how he obtained emergency lights.
