Man accused of ‘severely’ beating, kidnapping Lincoln woman gets $5 million bond

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The man accused of severely beating and kidnapping a Lincoln woman was seen in court for the first time Friday.

Dominic Williams, 36, was charged with kidnapping and first-degree assault, and his conditional bond was set at 10% of $5 million.

According to court documents, that condition is no contact with the victim.

Around 8:15 a.m. Wednesday, officers with the Lincoln Police Department were sent on a welfare check for a 37-year-old Lincoln woman.

Police said officers received a text message with a picture of the victim that “showed her injuries and claimed she had been killed.”

The investigation led officers to North First and Adams streets, where they spotted 36-year-old Dominic Williams leaving in a vehicle.

Officers pulled over Williams around 11:50 a.m. and found the victim unconscious in the back seat, according to police.  Her injuries were “reflective” of those seen in the photo.

According to an arrest affidavit, officers said the victim was beaten badly, to the point she was unrecognizable and unable to speak.

LPD said the victim was taken to a hospital with “significant injuries,” including facial fractures and internal bleeding.

Williams was arrested and taken to the main police station where he chose to make a statement.

According to the affidavit, Williams said he picked up the victim just before midnight the night prior and dropped her off to a group of friends.

Williams said he was told the next morning that she was in danger.

He said that he found the victim in her current state on the side of a gravel road before sending the photo to police, according to the affidavit.

During the statement, Williams denied assaulting the victim, claiming he was trying to help her.

However, the affidavit states Williams denied seeking any medical attention for the victim.

Court documents also say officers found dried blood on the rear driver’s side and front passenger’s side of Williams’ car.

As interviews continued, officers spoke with someone who fears retaliation, according to the affidavit.

That person stated that Williams admitted to beating the victim in hopes to get the name of someone who recently robbed him.

While on the phone with Williams, the person said they could hear the victim in the background, according to court documents.

Police said the investigation is ongoing, including working to determine a motive and when and where the assault happened.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 402-441-6000 or Crime Stoppers at 402-475-3600.

LPD thinks the incident is “part of an ongoing dispute between two groups and not an incident of domestic violence.”

Police also said the assault is not gang-related.

Williams is set to be back in court on Nov. 4 at 10 a.m.
