Man accused of stealing $38,000 in property in string of Lancaster County thefts

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A man was arrested Monday in a string of thefts in southeast Lancaster County, the sheriff’s office says.

Chief Deputy Ben Houchin said six burglaries to outbuildings and garages were reported over the last week and a half in the county.

Around $38,000 in property — including riding lawnmowers, tools, ladders and lawn furniture — was stolen, according to Houchin.

An investigation led deputies to identify 29-year-old Jacob Peterson as a suspect.

Houchin said deputies served a search warrant at a storage unit, which Peterson rented, in southeast Lincoln.

Inside, investigators recovered $27,000 worth of stolen property.

Peterson was later arrested on suspicion of burglary.  Houchin said he could face additional charges as the investigation continues.

“Getting Jacob arrested stopped a lot more people from becoming a victim,” Houchin said.
