LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Nebraska State Patrol arrested a wanted Scottsbluff man early Thursday morning after a pursuit and standoff in the panhandle.

Tyreese Monroe, 21, was arrested on suspicion of flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, kidnapping and an active warrant out of Texas.

Around 11:15 p.m. MT, a trooper saw a Mercury Grand Marquis speeding on Lake Minatare Road, north of Scottsbluff.

The trooper pulled the car over, but Monroe accelerated and fled west during the traffic stop. The trooper then started a chase.

Monroe turned south on Highway 71 and continued into Scottsbluff, reaching speeds over 100 mph, according to the state patrol.

According to authorities, Monroe drove through Scottsbluff on Highway 26, then turned north on county roads, eventually stopping at a home near Lake Minatare Road and County Road 24.

Monroe then ran into the home and barricaded himself inside, the state patrol said.

Additional troopers, the Scotts Bluff County Sheriff’s Office, the Scottsbluff Police Department and the Gering Police Department all responded to the scene.

Troopers learned there was a female also inside the home and a male passenger that was in the car with Monroe during the chase.

Monroe also had access to firearms, the state patrol said.

According to the state patrol, Monroe was preventing the passenger and the female from leaving the house.

After one hour, the passenger was able to leave the house, but Monroe still refused to exit or allow the female to leave.

Around 2 a.m., the crisis negotiators were able to get Monroe to exit the house peacefully and he was immediately taken into custody.

The female was then able to leave the home safely, the state patrol said. Two firearms were found inside the home.

He was lodged in the Scotts Bluff County Jail.
