Man arrested after shooting woman in south Lincoln, police say
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A man was arrested after a drive-by shooting late Tuesday night in south Lincoln, police say.
Around 10 p.m., officers were sent to a neighborhood near 40th Street and Old Cheney Road on the report of a shooting.
Officers arrived and found a 42-year-old woman with a gunshot wound, according to LPD.
She was shot while sitting on a couch inside a duplex. The victim was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
The front door had “numerous” bullet holes, police said, and officers found bullet casings in the street.
During an investigation, 32-year-old Zachary Skeahan of Alvo was deemed a suspect, police said.
The Nebraska State Patrol and the Cass County Sheriff’s Office helped LPD take Skeahan into custody.
He was arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault, discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony.
Police said the victim and the shooter knew each other.
Neighbors said the street is usually very quiet and safe, so the shooting was surprising.
“I feel safe living here,” Trevon Anderson said. “I mean, I’ve never seen anything like this before, for sure.”
But the same duplex was shot at in October. No one was injured that time.
Police said they are investigating whether the shootings are connected.
One man told Channel 8 he was walking home from work when he heard the gunshots Tuesday night, adding that a man he believed to be the shooter then drove past him quickly with his headlights off.
One neighbor said the fact that the shooting was random makes the fear a little more manageable
Anderson added the incident makes him feel “a little bit” unsafe, but not a lot.
“Definitely never had anything like this happen before, so it’s a little scary,” he said.
