Man arrested in baseball bat assault in west Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A man was arrested Monday in connection with a brutal beating in west Lincoln.

Arthur Craft, 53, is charged with second-degree assault and is being held on a $35,000 bond.

The assault happened April 13 at a home near Northwest 18th and West O streets, according to the Lincoln Police Department.

Court documents say a man brought Craft a drink, “which upset him.”

So Craft pushed the man to the ground and punched him in the head several times, police said.

A woman in the home tried to pull Craft off the man, according to an arrest affidavit, but he shoved her.

The woman then repeatedly hit the wall with an aluminum baseball bat in an effort to get Craft “to leave the residence,” court documents say.

Instead, Craft took the bat from her and hit the man in the head numerous times, police said.

The victim had several cuts on his face and required stitches, officers said.

A judge issued an arrest warrant for Craft last month.

His next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 27.
