Man arrested in central Lincoln stabbing

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A man was arrested Friday morning in a stabbing in central Lincoln, police say.

Around 4:15 a.m., officers initially responded to a trespassing at a home near 22nd and Washington streets.

The caller said a man and a woman, who he knew, were refusing to leave, according to police.

As officers were on their way to the scene, they learned someone had been stabbed.

Officers found two victims about a block from the home of the suspect, 51-year-old Billie Schmidt, police said.

Schmidt had stabbed a 44-year-old man with a kitchen knife during an argument, according to LPD.  He then threatened a 42-year-old woman.

The man was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers found a knife in Schmidt’s bedroom.

Schmidt was arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault, use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony and terroristic threats.

Police said he was taken to a hospital to be treated for a cut on his head before being lodged in the Lancaster County Jail.
