Man tried to commit ‘suicide by cop’ in York, authorities say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Authorities say a man who refused to pull over in York eventually tried to commit “suicide by cop.”

This all happened on Sunday around 6 p.m., when an officer with the York Police Department tried to stop a vehicle.

The York County Sheriff’s Office got involved as well, and the vehicle finally pulled over near South Lincoln Avenue and West Nobes Road.

Authorities said the man got out and held a handgun behind his back, while telling officers to shoot him.

Officers saw an orange tip on the gun and found out that the man purchased a BB gun that day.

Authorities then used a PepperBall gun to help bring him into custody.

The sheriff’s office praised deputies and officers for showing “amazing restraint” and resolving the situation with no injuries.
