LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A man was seen stealing copper wire from an air-conditioning unit at a Lincoln business over the weekend.

Around 2:20 a.m. Saturday, officers were sent to a business near 48th and Superior streets on a report of a theft.

In security video, a man was spotted arriving in a Chevy Avalanche and taking the copper wire, police said.

The next day, around 3 a.m., an officer saw the same vehicle near 60th Street and Havelock Avenue.

The officer pulled it over, and the driver – a 56-year-old man – was identified as the thief seen in the security video, police said.

Inside the vehicle, officers found several construction-related items, which police think were stolen.

The man was arrested on suspicion of theft by unlawful taking and possession of a controlled substance.

Anyone who has been a victim of a recent construction theft is asked to call police at 402-441-6000.
