Man caught with gun, marijuana after chase west of Lincoln, deputy says

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A man was arrested Monday after a short pursuit in rural western Lancaster County, the sheriff’s office says.

Around 11:45 a.m., a deputy tried to pull over a Ford Fusion for speeding near Northwest 98th and O streets.

The driver — Damian Fonseca — refused to stop, and the deputy chased him for about three minutes before ending the pursuit due to safety concerns, Chief Deputy Ben Houchin said.

Shortly after, a deputy in an unmarked vehicle spotted Fonseca near Southwest 40th and Van Dorn streets and started following him.

Fonseca eventually stopped at a gas station near 17th and Washington streets, where he was taken into custody, Houchin said.

During a search of the vehicle, deputies found a handgun and a small amount of marijuana, according to Houchin.

Fonseca was arrested on suspicion of several charges, including felony flight to avoid arrest.
