Man charged in Lincoln Memorial Day weekend crash waives preliminary hearing

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The man accused of killing two women in a crash on O Street on Memorial Day weekend waived his preliminary hearing on Tuesday.

Kyvell Stark’s arraignment is set for 9 a.m. on Aug. 17 in district court.

Stark was arrested on suspicion of two counts of manslaughter and two counts of driving under the influence with serious bodily injury.

Police said Stark was traveling west on O and struck the passenger side of a Toyota Corolla. The driver of the Corolla, Emily Siebenhor, and her passenger, Edith Hermosillio, died on the scene.

The crash also caused the cars to enter a crowd of spectators, injuring 20 people.

Police said Stark was under the influence of marijuana and was going up to 90 mph moments before the crash.

A Lincoln resident, Diana, who wished to withhold her last name, said her sister was injured in the crash.

Diana said another Lincoln woman, Alina Brichka, helped her treat and bandage victims after the crash. The two formerly lived in Ukraine and said their “life experience” taught them how to help.

Diana and Alina visited the courthouse Tuesday morning to witness the preliminary hearing.

“Our hearts go out to everyone involved and that things will get better,” Diana said.

She said Stark “made the choice to drive under the influence, and unfortunately, that one bad choice led to the death of two girls.”

The two said that they are hoping for Stark to be convicted and that the amount of racing and crashes on O street needs to be dealt with.

“There was no reason for his actions,” Alina said. “This is why we have laws in place. You don’t know what will happen after you run that red light.”
