LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A man is facing several felony charges in the fatal shooting of his ex-girlfriend at a home in Seward.

According to court records, 54-year-old Casey Kindt is being charged with first-degree murder, use of a firearm to commit a felony, possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, burglary and child abuse.

Kindt is currently in custody at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, according to an arrest warrant filed Friday.

On Feb. 8 around 11:45 p.m., Kindt went to the home of his ex-girlfriend, 36-year-old Jamie Hagen, and fatally shot her, the Nebraska State Patrol said.

Kindt then shot himself, and authorities took him to the Seward Memorial Hospital.  He was later taken to UNMC for additional treatment.

Hagen had filed for a protection order against Kindt in December 2024, an arrest warrant affidavit says.
