Man cited after using blow torch to clean frayed rug sets apartment complex on fire

A 45-year-old Lincoln man is being fined after setting his apartment complex on fire while trimming up a rug.

According to Lincoln Police around 7 p.m. Saturday night 45-year-old Richard Murrary was using a blow torch to clean frayed edges of a rug on his apartment balcony near 21st and J Streets.

Murrary left the rug hanging over the railing of the balcony and went inside. When he came back out the entire balcony was engulfed in flames.  Four families have been displaced by the fire.

LPD cited Murrary for negligent burning. The complex sustained $250,000 in damage from the fire.
