LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Michigan man who fired a gun at a north Lincoln hotel last year will spend several years behind bars.

Micheal Cornejo, 29, was sentenced Tuesday to 18 to 26 years in prison for two counts of attempted class 2 felony and operating a motor vehicle to avoid arrest.

The prison sentence is automatically cut in half due to Nebraska’s good time law.

Four other felony charges were dropped as part of a plea deal, according to court documents.

On June 18, 2024, Cornejo drove up to the hotel and shot at the building before leaving, the Lincoln Police Department said.

Officers found shell casings in the parking lot and the hotel’s lobby window had bullet holes, according to LPD.

Shortly after, officers learned that Cornejo’s vehicle was seen near North 27th Street and Old Dairy Road.

Police said officers tried pulling over the vehicle, but Cornejo refused to stop.

Officers started chasing Cornejo, but the pursuit ended when he crashed into a roundabout at North 14th and Superior streets.
