LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A man died Tuesday night after a standoff at a rural Dixon County home, the Nebraska State Patrol says.

Around 11:30 a.m., state troopers and Dixon County deputies went to the home of 36-year-old Andrew Chase near Allen.

Chase was wanted on multiple arrest warrants, the patrol said.

Troopers tried to contact Chase but didn’t receive a response.

About two hours later, a trooper saw Chase come out and walk around the property carrying a long gun and hiding in “various locations,” the patrol said.

As the patrol’s SWAT team was en route to the property, Chase was spotted going back inside the home.

Around 8:50 p.m., the SWAT team entered the home, and a patrol dog found Chase hiding in a room on the second floor.

Shortly after, troopers heard a single gunshot come from the room, according to the patrol.

Emergency crews tried saving Chase’s life, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The patrol said authorities did not fire their weapons during the standoff.  No one else was injured.

A grand jury is set to investigate Chase’s death, as required by Nebraska law.
