Man dies after New Year’s Eve crash in central Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — One man was killed on New Year’s Eve in an alcohol-related crash in central Nebraska, authorities say.
The crash happened about 10:45 p.m. Tuesday on Highway 30 about 4 miles east of Grand Island, according to the Merrick County Sheriff’s Office.
A Toyota Corolla crossed the centerline and hit a Dodge Grand Caravan, Sheriff John Westman said.
The driver of the Toyota — 52-year-old Javier Ortiz Diaz of Central City — was taken to a Grand Island hospital, where he died.
No one else was in the car.
The driver of the minivan was hospitalized with serious injuries, the sheriff’s office said.
Investigators think alcohol was a factor in the crash.
