LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Bellevue man was killed Thursday night after getting shot near Offutt Air Force Base.

Just before 10:30 p.m., officers responded to an apartment building near Englewood Drive and Galvin Road in Bellevue on a report of gunshots.

When officers arrived, they found 21-year-old George Negrete with a gunshot wound.

First responders performed lifesaving measures, and he was taken to a metro-area hospital.

Officials said Negrete died at the hospital.

Investigators said Negrete was involved in a fight with a 23-year-old man who was not on the scene when officers arrived.

The man was later found at a nearby home and arrested without incident.

Officials said the man also suffered injuries in the fight, and he was taken to a hospital.

The Bellevue Police Department said that the extent of the suspect’s injuries are unknown at this time and that the shooting is still under investigation.
