Man enters insanity plea in deadly stabbing at I-80 rest area in Nebraska
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A man accused of stabbing a couple at an Interstate 80 rest area in Nebraska, killing one of them, will use an insanity defense.
On Tuesday, 22-year-old James Thompson of Ohio pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to 11 felony charges, including first-degree murder.
Court documents say on June 19, Thompson brutally stabbed a Missouri couple at the I-80 rest area south of Grand Island.

He was trying to steal the Jeep that was attached to their camper, an arrest affidavit says.
Gary Weaver, 72, died from his wounds. Mary Weaver, 71, suffered serious injuries to her head and neck, according to the affidavit.
On Oct. 2, Thompson was deemed mentally competent to stand trial after a psychological evaluation.
His next hearing in Hall County District Court has been set for Dec. 17.
