Man faces two felonies after confrontation with Lincoln Police

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A man accused of coming at two Lincoln Police officers with knives made his first court appearance Wednesday.

Donald Johnson, 33, was charged with attempted second-degree assault on an officer and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony.

A judge ordered him to be held on a $250,000 bond, meaning he would need to pay $25,000 to be released from jail.

On Sunday, police said Johnson was breaking windows at a home near 48th and L streets.

The first officer who arrived saw him with a knife in each hand, according to court documents.

Johnson then “advanced on” the officer while yelling, an arrest affidavit says, prompting him to get back in his cruiser.

Another officer arrived and ran toward Johnson with a Taser.

But police said he would still not put down the knives.

So the first officer hit Johnson with his cruiser, knocking him to the ground.

Johnson got up and ran toward the officer, still wielding the knives, police said.

So the second officer shocked him with a Taser and took him into custody.

Even after that, police said Johnson kept yelling at the officers.

“I’m killing cops!” he said, according to the affidavit. “I’m not playing.”

Johnson is due back in court March 19.
