Man facing multiple charges following arson at York Walmart, court documents say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The man accused of starting a fire at a Walmart in York was seen in court for the first time Wednesday.
William Regan Young Eckman, 20, was officially charged with first-degree arson, terroristic threats and criminal mischief.
His bond was also set at 10% of $25,000.
Just before 11:30 a.m. Sunday, officers with the York Police Department were sent to Walmart on a report of a fire inside the building.

While officers were on the way, dispatch said Eckman was currently on the line and admitted to setting the fire, an affidavit says.
When officers arrived, they arrested Eckman near the dumpsters on the north side of Walmart’s property.
According to court documents, an investigation lined up with Eckman’s statement.
During an interview, police wrote that Eckman intentionally lit the fire, and explained in depth details that only someone present at the time the fire was set would know.
According to court documents, Walmart was ‘heavily occupied’ by customers and staff at the time the fire was lit.
Police said Eckman intentionally set the fire, knowing the store was occupied, and took into account where the people were when setting the fire.
The building was completely evacuated, according to police.
Walmart’s merchandise loss totaled $14,610. This does not include Walmart property that was damaged during the fire.
Walmart reopened on Wednesday at 6 a.m. and posted a heartfelt message to its customers on Facebook.
“To our valued customers—thank you for your patience, understanding, and continued support as we continue to get our shelves stocked for you! We’ve missed you and are ready to welcome you back!”
