Man gets 12 years in prison for having meth, pipe bomb at rural Nebraska home

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Stapleton man will spend over a decade behind bars for having drugs, guns and a pipe bomb in his rural Logan County home.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office said Joseph Lynn Duran, 38, was sentenced Wednesday to 12 years in prison for possession of meth with the intent to distribute and for being a felon in possession of firearms.
On Sept. 13, 2021, a Lincoln County deputy tried to pull over a vehicle, which was driven by Duran. But the attorney’s office said Duran didn’t stop.
During the pursuit, Duran threw a duffel bag out of his vehicle. Authorities later found the bag, which had about 4 ounces of meth inside, according to the attorney’s office.
The chase ended when Duran stopped about 100 yards away from his home in rural Logan County.
Authorities then searched the home and found THC, ammo and a pipe bomb in a safe, the attorney’s office said.
In another safe, authorities found several firearms, including a Mini-14 rifle with a folding stock.
About 5 pounds of marijuana, which had been packaged for sale, was located in the garage, according to the sheriff’s office.
Duran had prior felony convictions and was banned from possessing firearms.
After his release from prison, Duran will serve a five-year term of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.
