Man gets over 22 years in federal prison for ‘brutal’ armed robbery at Omaha bank

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A man will spend over two decades behind bars for an armed bank robbery in Omaha last year, the U.S. Attorney’s Office says.
Taliaferro Thompson, 27, was sentenced Wednesday to 22 years and six months for bank robbery and brandishing a firearm during a bank robbery.
Thompson was also ordered to pay a fine of $269,822.
On Jan. 26, 2023, Thompson and co-defendant Andrew Kincaid entered First National Bank near 175th Street and West Center Road armed with handguns.
The duo pointed the handguns at employees and customers, according to the attorney’s office.
Thompson also “pistol whipped” a bank employee in the head and forced them to open the vault, the attorney’s office said.
U.S. District Court Judge Brian Buescher called the robbery “unusually heinous, cruel, brutal and degrading” during the sentencing.
In total, Thompson and Kincaid stole $348,920 from the bank. Investigators identified Thompson through surveillance video.
Authorities eventually found Thompson and Kincaid and took them into custody.
Inside Thompson’s vehicle, investigators discovered $76,000 in cash and two handguns in his vehicle, the attorney’s office said.
Officers also searched Thompson’s home and found the mask he was wearing during the robbery.
After his release from prison, Thompson will serve a five-year term of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.
Kincaid has since pleaded guilty to similar charges. His sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 4.
