LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A man was sentenced to prison Tuesday for stealing an SUV from a Lincoln auto dealership.

Devin Weldon, 34, got four to seven years in prison for felony theft.

Judge Ryan Post gave him credit for almost a year already served behind bars, so he could be eligible for parole in one year.

Court documents say that Weldon test-drove the vehicle before stealing it.

On March 7, 2024, he went to Oak Auto Sales near 70th and Fremont streets and asked to see some vehicles.

He ended up driving off in a Chevy Tahoe and didn’t come back until an hour later, police said.

Weldon claimed that he was showing the SUV to his wife, according to an arrest affidavit.

Two days later, the dealership reported the Chevy stolen.

Investigators obtained security video showing Weldon sneaking around the dealership before getting into the SUV, shutting off the alarm and driving off.

Police think he was able to get a key to the vehicle.

Officers found the SUV near 14th Street and Fletcher Avenue. They said Weldon’s hoodie and sunglasses were inside.

Weldon pleaded no contest last month.
