LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A man was taken into custody Thursday morning after a woman was found dead inside a northeast Lincoln home, police say.

At around 8 a.m., officers were sent on a welfare check at a home near North 56th and Holdrege streets.

Assistant Police Chief Jason Stille said a family called 911 after not hearing from a loved one for a couple of days.

When the officers arrived, they met with family members outside the home and began searching the premises.

Inside, officers found a man and woman, both in their 40s, according to Stille.  The woman had injuries to her neck and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The man — who has not been identified — was taken into custody and later transported to a hospital.

Stille said investigators are working to learn more about the relationship between the man and woman.

An investigation is ongoing, and more information is expected to be provided at an LPD briefing on Friday morning.
