Man injured during shootout with officer at south Omaha home, police say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – An officer shot a man in the legs late Thursday night in south Omaha, police say.
Around 8:40 p.m., officers were sent to the area of 72nd and Maple streets after a caller reported a disturbance involving an armed man in a Cadillac.
With the vehicle’s license plate number, officers were able to find the Cadillac at a home near 61st and Q Streets.
Police said an officer pulled into the driveway behind the Cadillac and went to speak with the driver, 42-year-old James Wilson.
The officer “immediately exchanged gunfire” with Wilson, who was shot in the legs, according to police.
Wilson was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Police said the officer suffered an arm injury, but they are unsure what caused that wound. Officers did find a handgun in the driveway.
An investigation is ongoing, and the officer has been placed on paid administrative leave.
