LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Custer County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal crash just north of Broken Bow.

While several fire departments were fighting a grass fire in the area on Thursday, first responders with Broken Bow Fire and Rescue were sent to a ranch for a rollover crash.

When they arrived, the paramedics began lifesaving measures on the lone occupant of a UTV.

Chase Christen, 40, was taken to the Jennie M. Melham Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Officials said Christen was helping his neighbors move cattle to safety from the grass fire.

He was ejected from his vehicle after it rolled into a ditch, according to the sheriff’s office.
