LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A hit-and-run near Waverly on Sunday night ended in the forceful arrest of a Weeping Water man.

The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office was called to the intersection of Highway 34 and 148th Street just after 7 p.m. on reports of a hit-and-run.

A Chevy Impala ran into the back of a BMW that was stopped at the intersection, Chief Deputy Ben Houchin said at a press conference.

A 14-year-old passenger in the BMW suffered minor head and neck injuries, according to Houchin.

Houchin said both drivers got out to exchange information, but the driver of the Impala then decided to leave.

Deputies recognized the Impala driving near Waverly and made a traffic stop, according to Houchin.

Rodney Bottorff, 60, was identified as the driver.

Deputies said there was a strong smell of marijuana and alcohol coming from the car.

Houchin said there was an open container and drug paraphernalia in the car.

Bottorff told deputies that he was going to resist arrest and “started to struggle,” according to Houchin.

They took Bottorff to the ground and put him in handcuffs, Houchin said.

Bottorff had a blood alcohol level of 0.191%, more than twice the legal limit.

This is the second time Bottorff has resisted arrest, resulting in a felony, Houchin said.

It was also his second DUI, according to the sheriff’s office.

Bottorff was lodged in the Lancaster County Jail on multiple charges, including aggravated DUI, resisting arrest, and leaving the scene of an injury accident.
