A man charged with manslaughter after his pickup hit a car carrying an eight-year-old Lincoln boy was sentenced to prison Thursday morning.
Lincoln Police say Brandon Valentine, 22, was driving his pickup truck at 85 miles per hour seconds before he crashed into a car at the intersection of North Cotner Boulevard between Garland and Leighton on March 16th.
The crash killed eight-year-old Camden King, a third grader at Randolph Elementary, and severely injured his father, Jesse.
A judge sentenced Valentine to 16 years in prison.
Valentine’s attorney said Valentine is remorseful and accepted responsibility for his action.
Police say Valentine was going more than 35 miles per hour over the posted speed limit at the time of the crash.
Officers found bottles of alcohol in Valentine’s truck.
His attorney said despite the bottles being found, Valentine is not an alcoholic.
