Man sentenced for deadly October crash south of Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — A man was sent to prison on Thursday for a fatal fall crash in rural Lancaster County.

District Judge Matthew Mellor sentenced 40-year-old David Warren to 21 to 23 years in prison for manslaughter and DUI causing serious bodily injury.

Warren, of Beatrice, will be eligible for parole in about 10 years.

On Oct. 28, Warren hit the back of a semitrailer near Southwest 14th Steet and Highway 33, then crashed into a pickup truck.

The driver of the pickup, 53-year-old Bradley Kreifels of Crete, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Kreifels’ passenger suffered a broken wrist, broken ribs and a fractured hip, according to court documents.

Warren was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office said deputies found multiple empty bottles of 99-proof liquor at the scene.

Warren’s blood alcohol content level was 0.176%, an arrest affidavit says, more than twice the legal limit.
