LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A fight outside a Grand Island home Monday morning led to a shooting, police say.

Around 5:30 a.m., officers were sent to a home near Kruse Avenue and Cottage Street on a report of two men fighting in the front yard.

During the fight, Gerber Perez-Vasquez and another man pushed each other multiple times, causing injuries, police said.

After being punched “multiple times,” Perez-Vasquez pulled out a pistol and hit the man in the face, according to police.

The gun then went off, and the man was shot in the shoulder.

Perez-Vasquez was arrested on suspicion of several charges, including first-degree assault and use of a weapon to commit a felony.

The man who was shot was cited on suspicion of third-degree assault.
