Man sideswipes woman in Lincoln after mistaking her for ex-girlfriend, police say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A man thought he sideswiped his ex-girlfriend’s vehicle Wednesday morning.  But it wasn’t her, Lincoln Police say.

Around 12:30 a.m., a 34-year-old woman was heading west on Holdrege Street near 65th Street when her vehicle was struck from behind by an SUV.

The woman tried slowing down to let the driver, later identified as 59-year-old Daryl Stokebrand, go around her.

But Stokebrand started pushing her vehicle from behind, police say.

Eventually, he sideswiped her car, got out and approached the woman.  He then realized she wasn’t who he thought she was.

Stokebrand thought the woman was his ex-girlfriend, according to police.

He then apologized to the woman, offered to pay for the damage and left the area.

Later on, officers found Stokebrand and arrested him on suspicion of terroristic threats, use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony and attempted second-degree assault.

Police estimate the woman’s vehicle had $6,000 in damage.
