LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A man was caught Sunday after stealing a bus driver’s backpack last week, police say.

On May 28, 69-year-old Vincent Whitemagpie stole the bus driver’s backpack, which contained $10,000 in cash, according to police.

He got off at the bus station near 11th and N streets.  Investigators were notified of the theft a day later.

Officers watched the surveillance video and recognized Whitemagpie as the suspected thief, according to police.  He was taken into custody on Sunday.

Police said more than $7,800 in cash was recovered but the rest is still missing.  Whitemagpie also had a meth pipe on him during the arrest, LPD says.

He was booked in Lancaster County Jail on suspicion of theft and possessing a controlled substance.
