LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A Bridgeport man tried to play hide-and-seek with troopers after a pursuit on Thursday, the Nebraska State Patrol said.

Just after 6:30 p.m., a trooper tried pulling over a speeding Volkswagen Passat on Highway 385 near Bridgeport, which is east of Scottsbluff.

The northbound driver refused to stop and instead continued speeding.

As the vehicle approached Alliance, it turned around and started going south, the patrol said.

The driver continued for about 30 minutes, surpassing speeds of 100 mph until he ran over stop sticks, which caused the vehicle to go into a field.

He got out of the vehicle and left the area, according to the patrol.

Troopers and Morrill County deputies searched the area but couldn’t find the driver, whom they identified as 30-year-old Develyn Tasby of Bridgeport.

Just a few hours later, authorities searched a Bridgeport home and found Tasby in the attic, the patrol said.

Tasby was arrested on suspicion of flight to avoid arrest, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, willful reckless driving, driving under suspension, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana.

He was taken to the Scotts Bluff County Jail.
