Man wielding 26-inch sword shocked with Taser after north Lincoln chase, police say

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – A man wielding a large sword was arrested Tuesday after a brief chase in north Lincoln, police say.

Around 5:30 p.m., two people returned to their home near 30th and Holdrege streets to find Jamie Akin, 47, in the driveway.

Police said Akin was armed with a 26-inch sword and hitting their fence.

Akin ran away after seeing police cruisers, and officers chased him to a nearby church’s parking lot.

Police said Akin refused to drop the sword, so officers shot him with a bean bag and stunned him with a Taser.

Once released from the hospital, Akin was arrested on suspicion of several charges, including terroristic threats.
