Matt Davison leaves Nebraska Athletics to help launch new NIL collective for Huskers
LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Name, image and likeness opportunities continue to grow in Nebraska with the launch of a new collective focused on Husker athletics.
Tom and Shawn Peed and former Nebraska Senior Associate Athletic Director Matt Davison announced the launch of the 1890 Initiative on Wednesday.
The new collective will focus on Husker football and volleyball student-athletes, according to a press release.
The 1890 Initiative plans to support athletes through local charities, partnerships and networking with local businesses.
NIL opportunities for those athletes will include camps, clinics, community outreach, autograph signings and public appearances.
Davison will leave his position with Nebraska Athletics and serve as 1890’s president.
“I’ve been a Husker fan my entire life, and I’ve been grateful to remain close to the program in a variety of roles throughout my career,” he said in the press release. “The 1890 Initiative will allow me to help our student-athletes navigate their goals with NIL, and that is exciting for me.”
Thanks to a “generous” annual contribution from the Peed family, 1890 allows for 100 percent of additional contributions to go towards athletes, according to the press release.
“The Peeds have made a tremendous impact on the state of Nebraska and the city of Lincoln through their local businesses and philanthropic endeavors, and I couldn’t have been more excited when they approached me with this opportunity,” Davison said.
Nebraska Athletic Director Trev Alberts thanked Davison for his hard work in Husker Athletics and said he looks forward to his new venture.
“As I have said many times, Nebraska is positioned to be a leader in Name, Image and Likeness, and it is a positive when there are many people and groups that want to help our student-athletes,” Alberts said in the press release.
The group says they will have more news in the coming weeks, including plans for a downtown Lincoln office.
