Matt Kelly, former Channel 8 sports director, dies of cancer

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Former Channel 8 Sports Director Matt Kelly died Friday after a battle with cancer.

Kelly led the sports department in the early 2000s.

Colleagues said he had an unbelievable work ethic.

Kelly was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2023. It also spread to his abdomen and lungs, he said on social media.

Then earlier this month, he was diagnosed with leukemia, according to a Go Fund Me page.

Survivors include his wife, Tina.
