Matt “McKay” not to return to KFRX after strangulation charges

Matt “McKay” Rydberg is not returning to KFRX.
This comes after Rydberg was arrested and charged with felony strangulation in late April.
Alpha Media and 106.3 KFRX made an announcement on KFRX’s Facebook saying, “Alpha Media and Matt Rydberg (McKay) have severed their employment relationship. Out of respect for his family we have no further comment other than to say that we wish his family well.”
Rydberg, 41, better known as Matt McKay, the host of Matt McKay Mornings on 106.3 KFRX, was arrested on on April 21st.
According to court documents, Rydberg cut off breathing to his wife by grabbing her throat. He was arrested around 2:30 a.m. at his home. Rydberg was reportedly drunk. The incident was reportedly witnessed by two minors. A judge set his bond at $25,000 after Rydberg’s attorney argued his client had a “very limited” criminal history and was not a flight risk. The charge carries penalties of up to three years in prison, a $10,000 fine, or both.
Rydberg has been released on bond and is awaiting his next court date.
