Matt Talbot hosts 16th annual fundraiser in Lincoln to end homelessness

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Matt Talbot Kitchen and Outreach hosted the 16th annual Feeding the Soul of the City fundraiser on Thursday.
The nonprofit has been serving Lincoln since 1992, and its motto is “Compassion in Action.”
The event is a communitywide fundraiser aimed at changing the face of poverty and affordable housing in Lincoln.
Susanne Blue, executive director of Matt Talbot, said the housing market is in a catastrophic state, “especially for very low-income people.”
“It’s an absolute crisis that we’re in right now with the lack of affordable housing,” Blue said.
The Landlord Liasion Project is meant to fight those inequalities in Lincoln, with donors supporting the cause at the fundraising event.
Each dollar raised at Feeding the Soul of the City will go toward a family or individual in need.
Blue urges support of the cause, saying other affordable housing projects, unlike the Landlord Liaison Project, are “missing the mark.”
“While there are affordable housing programs being developed, they are not addressing the need for the very low-income people,” she said. “And that’s why we need to advocate for them.”
The annual fundraiser is being held at the Country Club of Lincoln at 6 p.m., with details of the event at MTKO.org.
