Matthews’ go-ahead home run in 10th leads Huskers to victory over Michigan

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – Nebraska baseball beat Michigan on Friday thanks to a two-run shot from Brice Matthews in extra innings.
The Huskers won 3-1 in the opening game of the three-game series against the Wolverines in Ann Arbor.
Casey Burnham led Nebraska to an early lead with a solo home run in the third inning.
Michigan answered back in the eighth, when center fielder Jonathan Kim hit a ball over the fence, tying the game up.
The home run finished Emmett Olson’s stint on the mound. He allowed two hits in 7.2 innings and struck out eight batters.
Both offenses were quiet in the ninth inning, with shutout innings from Husker Shay Schanaman and Wolverine Connor O’Halloran.
Matthews then broke the silence with a home run in the 10th, bringing him and Burnham to home plate.
