May/June blending together with continued warm weather, storm chances
We’ve recorded three days at or above 90° so far for the year. The first day Lincoln saw 90° was on May 7th, when we saw a daytime high of 91°. That was one day earlier than the 30-year average of May 8th. The earliest we’ve seen temperatures in the 90s was March 16th, back in 2015, while the latest was June 29th.
The warmest we’ve seen so far is 93°, the high temperature we got to in Lincoln just yesterday. Highs for today do look similar. Expecting similar conditions with highs in the lower 90s with sun and clouds.
Clouds as they form this afternoon with daytime heating have the small chance to grow bigger and bring some spotty storm/shower chances throughout eastern Nebraska Wednesday afternoon. We’ve dodged just about everything that has come our way so far, so it’ll be riding on another hope and prayer this afternoon. Better chances come by the end of the week.
If we see no more measurable rain throughout the day today, this May will go down as one of the driest on record. Records date back to 1887, more than 130 years ago, so comparing this year to all those years, you get the idea of how dry we’ve really been. We only saw just over a half inch through this month, when we should see over 4.7″.
Even with saying the chances for rain increase by the end of the week, models are not confident in a lot of rain coming our way soon. At this point, really hoping for the best while also keeping expectations reasonable.
