May traffic deaths in Nebraska increased 120% from a year before

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) – The Nebraska Department of Transportation released its traffic fatality report on Monday, showing a significant increase in traffic deaths.
In May, 22 people were killed in 20 fatal crashes.
In May 2023, there were 10 traffic fatalities.
Twelve out of 17 people in vehicles not using a seat belt. Three were using a seat belt, and two were marked as unknown.
NDOT also released traffic death statistics for the year so far.
There have been 100 deaths so far in 2024, compared with 75 at this time last year.
Since 2020, there have been an average of 80 traffic deaths in the first five months of the year.
