Memorial Day and next few days rather enjoyable
In case you missed it, the Storm Prediction Center confirmed that the line of storms that formed in Nebraska late Thursday into early Friday was considered a derecho. The derecho had multiple embedded tornadoes, causing each of our four National Weather Service offices across the state to conduct damage surveys.
Their preliminary findings so far have found that at least 27 tornadoes happened over that time period. Most of them were brief, weak tornadoes of the EF-0 and EF-1 variety.
This week should start out rather enjoyable. Memorial Day will feature the wind picking up a bit more especially by the afternoon. Northwest gusts will be around 30-35 mph around the peak heating hours.
Only slightly warmer than average once again today, with highs nearing 80° for most.
Temperatures will not vary all that much over the course of this week, before slightly cooling off by the end. That will be tied to more thunderstorms and increasing cloud cover expected by Thursday and into the weekend.
The risk of severe weather by then is uncertain, so be sure to check in with future updates as we get closer to the end of the week.
