Memorial Day Service at Wyuka Cemetery

“Today I came out to pay my respects and honor those who have gave their lives to serving our country so that we could be free here in America, the greatest country in the world,” William Evans said.

Hundreds came out to Wyuka Cemetery on Monday remembering the price of freedom.

“They gave our today for our tomorrow and I think that’s really why we are here and we need to never forget that,” Deborah Ring said.

Every year, Lincoln Fire and Rescue has the opportunity to honor the veterans in Lincoln and present the colors for the Memorial Day Service.

“The fire department is kind of a para military organization so it’s just really part of what we do everyday,” Lincoln Fire and Rescue, Nancy Christ said.

The ceremony featured guest speakers, recognition of memorials and laying of the wreaths. The boy scouts and girl scouts also took part in the program.

Three sisters say their father passed away in 2016 and was buried in the military cemetery. He was a pilot in World War II.

The ceremony was a way for many people to show their love and support for our veterans.

“I hope it’s a step towards the recognition that I think we really want to be providing for active and veteran service members,” Kathryn Borman said.

“It was beautiful and moving, I’m glad I could get up this morning to pay my respect,” Evans said.
