Mental health training for Nebraska first responders held at CenterPointe

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — Nebraska law enforcement personnel attended mental health training on Tuesday.

Region V Systems, a coalition of Lincoln behavioral health providers, held the seminar at CenterPointe.

The training helps recipients to identify signs and symptoms of mental health challenges among callers.

They also learned about ways to respond without sending officers.

This seminar is intended for dispatchers and any personnel who encounter a person in a mental health crisis.

Amber Dirks, senior director of community response at CenterPointe, said the organization’s mobile crisis team was also there to learn more. The team works with the Lincoln Police Department and focuses on responding to mental health calls.
