Mexico drops ban of GMO corn imports; Nebraska Farm Bureau calls it ‘substantial win’

LINCOLN, Neb. (KLKN) — The Nebraska Farm Bureau on Thursday celebrated Mexico’s repeal of its proposed ban on genetically modified corn imports.
President Mark McHargue called it a “substantial win for Nebraska’s corn farmers.”
In December, a trade dispute panel ruled that the ban violated the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement.
Mexico then had 45 days to bring itself into compliance with the USMCA.

The farm bureau said Mexico receives 93% of Nebraska’s corn exports.
“Nebraska farmers were in the direct line of fire on this proposed ban,” McHargue said in a statement.
